Every year we see new and exciting talent being discovered, but this season, bowlers have been on fire.
We have seen great bowling performances from players like Rashid Khan and Sunil Narine but as always the uncapped players have performed out of their skins.
Out of the top three wicket-takers, two are uncapped and these players have a very good chance of making their debut for their respective sides.
So here are the top five uncapped bowlers this season.
#5 Jofra Archer
This year many fast bowlers from the Big Bash League got to showcase their talent like Billy Stanlake and Ben Laughlin to name a few, but so far Jofra Archer has been the pick of the lot.
He had taken 16 wickets in 12 games for the Hobart Hurricanes last season. He has delivered the Yorker's right on point in the two matches he has played.
Archer has taken a stunning six wickets in only two matches so far at an economy of six! He was impressive in his debut game as well where he took three wickets against the Mumbai Indians. He also got the crucial wickets of the Pandya brother's in one over.
#4 Deepak Chahar
Deepak Chahar has been very impressive for the Chennai Super Kings. CSK have a knack for providing young Indian talent every year and this year it has been Chahar.
Already six wickets in as many games, he has consistently provided the breakthrough in the power play for CSK.
Relying on swing and seam movement rather than variations he has been key to CSK’s success this season.
In the first match of the tournament, Chahar in his first over got the important wicket of Evin Lewis.
An economy of less than 8 while bowling in the power play is sensational. Although an Indian call-up is far from being a reality, if he continues like this it will be hard for the selectors to ignore him.
#3 Ankit Rajpoot
The reason he is not further up the list is because he has played only 3 matches but in the 3 matches he has played, he has taken 7 wickets. Ankit Rajpoot is not an unknown name. He was pretty consistent for KKR last season as well and this season he has been on fire. An average of 6.2 is unbelievable for a fast bowler. Having to sit out in the first three matches he has now replaced the experienced Mohit Sharma. He broke the back bone of the SRH line-up, getting the important wickets of Dhawan, Williamson and Pandey. Ankit Rajpoot has also bagged two consecutive Man of the Match awards in his last two games.
#2 Siddarth Kaul
Kaul has been amongst the wickets for the last 18 months. Last year’s IPL too was not bad but this season has been a revelation.
Already in the top three bowlers for the highest wickets this season he has been SRH’s best bowler this season.
With Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Billy Stanlake out injured, Kaul has stepped up. Already impressing all, Kaul has not let anyone at SRH miss Bhuvi.
In the match against MI he bowled brilliantly with an average of below 6. 9 wickets in 7 matches at a very good economy of 7.03, Kaul definitely has a very good chance of getting an Indian call-up.
#1 Mayank Markande
Mayank Markande has been at the centre of all talk this IPL.
Seven wickets in his first two matches was something even he wouldn’t have dreamt of. The way he bowled in the first match against CSK especially against Dhoni was very good to see.
MI before the IPL had a very inexperienced spin department, but Markande has taken his opportunity with both hands.
The 20-year old was a relatively unknown commodity before the IPL, but if he continues the way he is going right now, a national call-up can be just around the corner.
