Alzarri Joseph made his IPL debut this season for Mumbai Indians against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6. And the 22-year-old West Indian ensured that it was an unforgettable one, and also one for the record books.

Joseph picked up six wickets on his debut and conceded only 12 runs. Thus, he broke Sohail Tanveer’s record from 2008 when he picked up 6/14 against CSK.

Impressively, one of Joseph’s scalps was the Orange Cap winner of the season, David Warner.

No player has picked up more than six wickets in an innings throughout the history of T20 cricket. But because of the number of runs conceded, Joseph’s bowling figures rank eighth in the all-time list.

Once Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Capitals in the second qualifier and set up yet another final against Mumbai Indians, another IPL record was destined to be broken irrespective of who won the final.

Before the final, Mumbai and Chennai had three titles each. As a result, the winner of the 2019 final would automatically become the most successful team in IPL history.

In a nervy and topsy-turvy final, it looked like CSK were on their way to victory after the 19th over. But a brilliant final over from Lasith Malinga and the careless run-out of Shane Watson in the fourth ball of the same over gave Mumbai a win by just one run.

Not only was this Mumbai’s fourth title overall, but this was also the second time Mumbai won an IPL final by one run. The first instance came in 2017, when they beat Rising Pune Supergiant.
