As cricket has become a batsman's sport, we have seen some brutal hammerings of decent bowlers by some of the world's best batsmen. Here, let's look at the most expensive overs in IPL history.

#3 33 runs, Ravi Bopara to Manoj Tiwary and Chris Gayle

The joint second most runs conceded in an over in the IPL involved Chris Gayle and Manoj Tiwary. It was the 34th match of IPL 2011 and was played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab at the Eden Gardens.

KKR were batting first and following a decent opening stand, were at 89 for one at the end of 12 overs. When medium pacer Ravi Bhopra ran in to bowl the 13th over, few could have anticipated the brilliant exhibition of power hitting by Gayle.

Once he was put on strike in the second ball of the over, he launched into a brutal attack and the over ended up being worth 33 runs.

The over: (33 runs)

It was the second qualifier of the 2014 season which was contested between Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab. Helped by a splendid knock of 122 by Virender Sehwag, KXIP set a tricky target of 227 for CSK.

However, what followed was an absolute blitzkrieg as CSK got to a total of 100 runs within the first six overs. The biggest reason for that was a splendid knock of 87 runs off just 25 balls by Suresh Raina.

The current record for most runs scored in a single over is a whopping 37 runs; this was accomplished by Chris Gayle for RCB against Kochi Tuskers Kerala in the 2011 season. The unfortunate bowler to be at the receiving end of this was Prasanth Parameswaran.
