Death bowling seems to be an area of concern for CSK this season, especially after Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out of the tournament. That makes playing an extra pacer all the more important. Willey has the experience of opening in the Big Bash League and might be asked to do the same for CSK if the need arises. This will also increase the depth in batting, just like Narine's opening the batting does for KKR.

Depending on the requirement, one between Tahir and Santner will get the nod. Santner might prove to be a good option at the lower middle order while Tahir is a better wicket-taking option. If Santner gets a nod, there might be an option of playing the leggie Karn Sharma in place of Ravindra Jadeja if the management feels the need for a wrist spinner.

Probable XI: Shane Watson, David Willey, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav, Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja/Karn Sharma, Imran Tahir/ Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, Mohit Sharma/Shardul
