Both the teams have always been blessed with match winners. Chennai has had the likes of Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Dwayne Bravo, and the likes of Matthew Hayden and Michael Hussey in the past. For Mumbai, they have the likes of Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, and Lasith Malinga at the present. They have also had some of the greatest cricketers like Sanath Jayasuriya, Sachin Tendulkar, and Mitchell Johnson in the past.

There have been some incredible individual performance recorded when these outfits have met each other. No one from Chennai has scored a century against Mumbai in IPL history. But Mumbai's first ever individual century came when the Sri Lankan legend Jayasuriya smashed a 48 ball-114 against CSK at Mumbai, which helped the hosts chase down 157 runs inside 14 overs.

When it comes to bowling, there was only once when a bowler took a five-wicket haul when these teams played each other in IPL. It was Harbhajan Singh, and he took 5/18 against them in the 2011 season. Interestingly, the Indian off-spinner currently plays for Chennai Super Kings.
