The much-awaited IPL auctions took place today in Jaipur. The event went on for nearly 6 hours and a total of 60 players were sold, including 20 overseas players and 40 Indians.
The two most expensive buys of the season were Jaydev Unadkat and the uncapped Varun Chakravarthy, who were bought by the Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab for Rs. 8.40 crores each.
The Kings XI were the busiest team of the auction, buying as many as 13 players. The Chennai Super Kings were the quietest team of the auction, buying just 2 players.
The start date of the IPL has not been confirmed yet but it is rumoured to start mid-March and go on till mid-May, before the World Cup starts on May 30.

Delhi Capitals:
The Delhi Capitals began the day with Rs. 25.50 crores and were the first on the board when they bought Indian youngster Hanuma Vihari for Rs. 2 crores. They also went on to purchase Ishant Sharma, who went unsold last year. Their costliest purchase was Colin Ingram, whom they purchased for Rs. 6.40 crore.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore came into the auction with Rs. 18.15 crores to spend. They went off the mark by purchasing the big-hitting Windies star Shimron Hetmyer. However, the biggest talking point for them was when they purchased Mumbai hero Shivam Dube for Rs. 5 crore.

KKR were quiet for most of the auction but came alive towards the end, buying a lot of players. Their most expensive buy was Carlos Brathwaite who was bought for Rs. 5 crores.

Their most expensive buy was the uncapped Varun Chakravarthy who was bought for Rs. 8.40 crores. They also bought Sam Curran and Mohammed Shami for Rs. 7.20 crores and Rs. 4.80 crores respectively.

After the Chennai Super Kings, the Sunrisers Hyderabad were the quietest team during the auction. They bought just three players, with Jonny Bairstow being the most expensive at Rs. 2 crores.

The Royals began the auction buying three fast bowlers, namely Jaydev Unadkat, Varun Aaron, and Oshane Thomas. Unadkat was the most expensive player once again, going for Rs. 8.40 crores. They purchased three players right at the very end of the auction as well.
