Jonny Bairstow and Shikhar Dhawan have been neck-to-neck performers in this IPL. Both have been the backbone to their teams. 76 runs separate Dhawan from Bairstow but he played more matches than the latter. Therefore, these two players feature as the second openers in their XI.

Bairstow, who wasn't expected to excel in the tournament, turned out to be a key player for the team. He made a statement only in his second match, where he scored 114 runs against RCB. He did not stop there and smashed many other match-winning knocks, and that too at a strike rate of 157.

Dhawan was lukewarm in the initial games, but he struck the form at the right time. He scored an unbeaten 97 against KKR, his best knock in his IPL career till date, and there was no looking back from there on. In a young DC team, he took the responsibility for being a consistent performer.
