Chennai Super Kings sprung a massive surprise by making Ambati Rayudu open the innings which rejuvenated his career. Shane Watson has always been a great opener for any team he has played for in the IPL

This unlikely pairing made sure that Chennai Super Kings got good starts more often than not and they were one of the main reasons why the CSK won the title for a record 3rd time in the history of the IPL. Their success at the top made the job easier for the middle order to finish off the games.
