One of India's most successful bowlers in Test match cricket, Sharma is not known for his exploits in the shorter versions of the game. Ishant Sharma went unsold in 2018 IPL auction. He last played IPL in 2017 for Kings XI Punjab.

In six matches that he featured for Punjab in IPL 2017, Ishant went wicketless and leaked a lot of runs. Still, Delhi Capitals bought him at the 2019 IPL auction. Playing after a year gap, he looked in good touch.

While bowling his second over today, he dismissed Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma after the latter gave a catch to Rahul Tewatia. This marked Ishant Sharma’s first wicket in IPL since 2016. He came back again in his third over to remove the dangerous Quinton de Kock for 27 runs. Ishant Sharma completed his spell with figures of 4-0-34-2.
