Ambati Raydu played a major role in Chennai Super Kings title-winning campaign 12 months ago. Last season he had amassed over 600 runs and ended as the highest run-getter for CSK.

Fast forwarding 12 months, Rayudu finds himself in a peculiar situation where he has gotten demoted in the batting lineup, rejected for the World Cup, retired from domestic cricket and may even be dropped from CSK's playing eleven if his failures continue with the bat.

In his 12 matches for Chennai Super Kings this season, Rayudu has scored 213 runs at an average of 21.3 and at a horrible strike rate of 89. With only one fifty to his name from these 12 matches and no other 30+ scores, the only reason why the Chennai Super Kings are bearing with him is the lack of specialist batsment to replace him.
