The 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League edition is right around the corner and the focus is once again on which new rising stars the league is going to throw out. Numerous talents have emerged to the scene over the years because of this tournement. The likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Yusuf Pathan, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah made their name due to their impressive displays in the IPL.
Each of the eight teams has more than one youngster who has the capability to be the next big thing in Indian Cricket. Here, we look at one emerging star from each team who have shown promise and will be looking at the 2019 edition as their statement to the selection committee
# 8 Deepak Chahar - Chennai Super Kings
With a team full of experienced cricketers flocking around Dhoni, it was extremely difficult to spot an Indian player who not an established player in the Chennai Super King's squad. Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar were the ones that did fit to some extent but Thakur did get a fair run in the Indian team before being dropped. On the other hand, Deepak Chahar has only played one ODI and T20 each for the national team.
Deepak Chahar last played for the Indian team in the Asia Cup against Afghanistan and had a nightmare ODI debut. He only bowled four overs in the match and went for 37 runs at an economy of 9.25.
He will definitely have that outing in his mind when he takes up the new ball for CSK in IPL 2019 season. Chahar is someone who showed a lot of promise last season. It is now up to him to improve his game.
# 7 Ankit Rajpoot - Kings XI Punjab
Ankit Rajpoot is another Indian pacer who showed a lot of potential in last season's IPL with Kings XI Punjab. His five-wicket haul against Sunrisers Hyderabad grabbed the headlines and the attention of the cricket world. With another Season of IPL approaching, he will know that he needs to put in a string of consistent performances to get into the minds of the Indian selectors.
The 25-year-old pacer from Uttar Pradesh does know the IPL circuit quite well having played for CSK and KKR in the previous years. Having taken 11 wickets in eight matches last year, Rajpoot will know, he needs to build from his impressive return last season. With his teammate Mayank Agarwal making his India debut last year, all the attention is on Rajpoot in the KXIP team. He is definitely capable of being the next rising star.
# 6 Krishnappa Gowtham - Rajasthan Royals
Krishnappa Gowtham is a handy allrounder, who has produced numerous match-winning performances for Karnataka in various domestic cricket matches. In last year's IPL, his finishing skills were on full display when he took Rajasthan Royals to victory on many occasions. His Strike Rate of 196.87 in IPL 2019 was among the highest in the season. His explosive batting along with his proficient spin bowling skill set makes him an important utility player for the team.
With India having a good crop of spin bowling all-rounders like Ravindra Jadeja, Krunal Pandya, Washington Sundar, and Axar Patel, the road to the Indian team is anything but a cakewalk for Gowtham. He will have to show his talent consistently to make a case. With Rajasthan Royals expected to rely on Gowtham once again in IPL 2019 for his finishing skills, one can expect fireworks from him.
# 5 Washington Sundar - Royal Challengers Bangalore
It is hard to believe that Washington Sundar is still a teenager. He has been around the IPL scene for the last two years and has also played seven T20I matches for the Indian national team. His most telling achievement is the man of the series award won by him in the Nidahas trophy last year.
Despite those achievements, Washington Sundar had a disappointing IPL season last time around. Royal Challengers Bangalore did not benefit much from his talent last season and will be looking forward to him making amends this season. Sundar also knows how important the present season of IPL will be for him to stake a claim ahead of Ravindra Jadeja and Krunal Pandya in the Indian team.
With age definitely on his side, we can surely expect to see him in Indian colors in the near future. RCB will hope, they can see him rise to the occasion this year for them.
# 4 Ishan Kishan -Mumbai Indians
Ishan Kishan is undoubtedly the best suited to become an emerging star from the Mumbai Indians squad. The Wicket-keeper batsman is part of India A setup and is on the radar of the selectors. With Rishabh Pant putting in some good performances and Sanju Samson closely on his heels, the path to the national team remains a tough one for the 20-year-old left-hander.
Ishan Kishan has played some decent knocks in the 2018 Indian Premier League and will be looking forward to continuing the same this year. His innings against Kolkata Knight Riders, where he took Kuldeep Yadav to the caters is still one that exhibited his talent to the whole country. With a good IPL 2019 season, Ishan Kishan can even stake a claim in Indian team with Dhoni's future uncertain after the World Cup. He will look to make the number three position his own in the Mumbai Indians team.
# 3 Vijay Shankar - Sunrisers Hyderabad
Vijay Shankar might be 28 years old, but he is only just burst on the scene and is consistently becoming a better player every time he has been given an opportunity. He has so far played four ODI matches and eight T20I games for the Indian national team and is still rising in stature after getting severely criticized for his performances initially.
The fact that Hardik Pandya is experiencing fitness problems and off the field issues has added more importance to the Tamil Nadu all-rounder. Considering the requirement of having a fast bowling all-rounder in the squad for the World Cup, he is someone extremely relevant at this point of time.
He will look forward to this IPL season with Sunrisers Hyderabad to bolster his claim to cement his place in the Indian team. Shankar will hope to fly to England ahead of Hardik Pandya or along with the Mumbai's Indians star.
# 2 Prithvi Shaw - Delhi Capitals
The young Indian opening batsman was set to open for India in the Australian tour until an injury ruled him out of series. That paved way for Mayank Agarwal to come into the squad and his performances and has made it difficult to replace him. Now Prithvi Shaw is left with the battle on his hands to make his way back into the Indian team.
Delhi Capitals has always been one of the teams that promoted youth over experience and Shaw is expected to open for Delhi along with new signing Shikhar Dhawan.
He will know that a busy Test Cricket schedule awaits India after the World Cup. The Mumbai batsman will need to put in some good performances in the IPL to keep himself in the limelight to get his spot back. If he is able to repeat his performances from last year, Delhi Capitals will benefit from the flamboyant right-hander's talent.
# 1 Shubman Gill - Kolkata Knight Riders
Shubman Gill is undoubtedly the rising Indian star from the Kolkata Knight Riders team. The fact that he has already made his debut for India is an acknowledgment of his caliber. With the ongoing talk of Virat Kohli playing at Number four, it potentially opens up a vacant spot at number three. Though Ambati Rayadu might be the preferred go-to-guy; Shubman Gill can stake a claim to it with some consistent performances.
With KKR expected to rely on Shubman Gill to ensure balance to the squad, Gill will be looking to showcase his talent this season to put forth his claim up against the pecking order for a place in the national team.
Nitish Rana is another player who has the potential to play for India in the KKR camp. He is yet to get into the good books of the Indian team management and will be looking to impress for KKR so that the selectors have a closer look at him
