#2 Release the under-performing players ahead of the auction

The Men in Yellow who are known for their smart investments during IPL auctions bought all-rounder Kedar Jadhav for ₹7.8 crore and leggie Karn Sharma for ₹5 crore at the 2018 IPL auction much to the surprise of fans. It was even more surprising went they acquired Mohit Sharma who won the Purple Cap back in 2014 IPL for ₹5.5 crore last season. With Kedar Jadhav has either been injury-prone and poor with the bat, he is likely to be released ahead of 2020 IPL auction given his form, age and astronomical price tag.
With several spinners in the ranks, Karn Sharma hardly got to play for CSK in the last two editions and given his form and price tag of ₹5 crore, he might also go under the hammer at Kolkata. Desperately in need of an experienced Indian pacer, CSK went for Mohit Sharma last season amidst much expectations.
The Haryana bowler though appeared in a solitary game for CSK in 2019 IPL and is likely to be shown the door this time. Out of favour opener, Murali Vijay who is currently might also be released with youngsters like Narayan Jagadeesan waiting in the wings to occupy the opening slot. Apart from these three players, Chennai might release Englishman Sam Billings who hasn't quite lived up to the expectations and replacement signing Scott Kuggeleijn of New Zealand to make way for proven overseas recruits. Releasing these players might augur well for Dhoni's men going into the December 19 auction to address their major areas of concern by targeting top players.
