The 28-year old Varun Chakravarthy had made headlines in last year's IPL auction when he was bought by the Kings XI Punjab franchise for a whopping 8.4 Crores.

Chakravarthy had impressed in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) and was the leading wicket-taker for the Tamil Nadu state side in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He did not have a promising debut conceding 25 runs off his first over on debut and suffered injuries through the season that kept him out for long.

Despite the struggles, Kolkata Knight Riders decided to play a gamble on him and sign him up this year for the sum of 4 Crores. His ability to outfox batsmen making the ball turn both ways make him a dangerous weapon and KKR are banking on his talent this year.
