IPL 2021: RCB player ratings vs CSK as middle-overs struggles haunt them again
Virat Kohli: 6/10
A look at the scoreboard might suggest that Kohli deserves a higher rating, but the RCB skipper slowed down considerably in the middle overs to suck momentum out of the innings. His 41-ball 53 ensured that RCB's explosive middle order didn't get time to settle, and his captaincy in the second innings was nothing short of woeful.
Devdutt Padikkal: 7.5/10
Padikkal struck five fours and three sixes in his 50-ball 70, but he should've made more of his matchup against Jadeja. It was an encouraging showing from the youngster, who seems like he could do with a more attacking opening partner. A misfield in the second innings was inexcusable, though.
KS Bharat: 5/10
RCB's No. 3 in the last game, Bharat didn't get to bat as the team attempted to make quick runs at the death. He receives a standard rating.
Glenn Maxwell: 7/10
Maxwell didn't get enough time to get his eye in on a difficult surface and only struck one six in his nine-ball stay at the crease. He produced a crucial breakthrough with the wicket of Du Plessis, but being given another over resulted in his figures being spoiled slightly.
AB de Villiers: 6/10
Barring a huge six off Thakur, De Villiers couldn't find his bearings against CSK. The rust is evident for the South African, who needs to spend some time in the middle to come good for RCB.
Tim David: 3/10
David's highly anticipated IPL debut didn't go to plan as he spooned a simple catch to cover off Chahar. It remains to be seen if RCB retain him in the playing XI for their next game.
Wanindu Hasaranga: 2/10
Hasaranga has threatened slightly in IPL 2021, but he leaked runs for the second game running. He conceded 40 runs in his four overs, with the CSK batsmen hitting three sixes.
Navdeep Saini: 2/10
The most expensive RCB bowler on the night, Saini sent down two overs in the powerplay that went for 25 runs. He is certainly better suited to the middle overs, as Kohli mentioned during the toss, but the RCB captain bizarrely used him with the new ball.
Harshal Patel: 7.5/10
The most effective RCB bowler with his cutters and slower balls, Harshal used his deception to pick up two wickets. But he was probably introduced into the attack too late.
Mohammed Siraj: 6/10
Siraj had an average outing as he bowled two decent overs in the powerplay without much reward. His over at the death to Dhoni left a lot to be desired.
Yuzvendra Chahal: 7.5/10
Chahal bowled well, scalping the wicket of Gaikwad and giving RCB a sniff in the middle overs. However, while he beat the bat a couple of times, the leg-spinner couldn't offer the matchwinning threat he usually does.
