Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will lock horns with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 68 of IPL 2023 on a doubleheader Saturday, May 20, at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The Knight Riders have blown hot and cold this campaign as they have played 13 games with six victories and seven defeats. With 12 points and a net run rate of -0.256, they are seventh in the table. They need a win here and then hope for other results to go their way to secure a place in the last four.
On the other hand, LSG has been impressive yet again in their second season. Krunal Pandya’s side has played 13 matches with seven wins and five losses. With 15 points and an NRR of +0.304, they are third in the table. A victory here would guarantee them a spot in the last four.
Every IPL game offers both participating teams a chance to reach certain milestones. Hence, some records are on the verge of being shattered during this upcoming game as well.
On that note, let's take a look at the top three milestones that could be reached in today's KKR vs LSG fixture.
#3 Venkatesh Iyer could complete 1,000 IPL runs for KKR
Venkatesh Iyer, who made his IPL debut with KKR in 2021, could complete his 1,000 IPL runs in the clash against LSG.
The KKR left-hander has mustered 932 runs at an average of 28.24 and at a strike rate of just under 130 across 35 innings. He is just 68 runs shy of completing 1,000 runs and thus becoming the tenth Indian player to amass 1,000 runs for KKR.
#2 Andre Russell could become the first-ever pacer to take 100 T20 wickets for KKR
Despite being one of the most fearsome strikers in T20s, Andre Russell has always had a special knack for picking up wickets.
For KKR, the Jamaican-born has picked up 97 scalps across 95 innings at a brilliant strike rate of just over 15. Another three scalps would take Russell to 100 wickets for KKR, making him the first-ever pacer to bag 100 T20 wickets for the franchise.
Out of his 97 T20 wickets for KKR, Russell has bagged 95 of them in the IPL while the other two came in the Champions League T20.
#1 Varun Chakravarthy could become only the second KKR bowler to pick 20 wickets in an IPL edition
After a mediocre IPL 2022 campaign (6 wickets in 11 games), Varun Chakravarthy has been phenomenal for KKR this term. The mystery spinner has scalped 19 times at a strike rate of 15.3 across 13 matches so far.
Chakravarthy could bag himself a significant personal record in the clash against LSG. If the 31-year-old manages to pick up a wicket on Saturday, he will become only the second KKR bowler after Sunil Narine to bag 20 wickets in a single IPL season.
Narine has taken over 20 wickets in a single campaign thrice (in 2012, 2013 and 2014).
