Twenty 20 specialist Tymal Mills excited everyone with his bowling skill against India in the T20 series earlier that year, which cause many IPL teams to enrol in a bidding war in the 2017 IPL auctions. He was in the IPL auction for the first time ever and immediately became the second costliest foreign player of the season. His expensive tag of ₹12 Crores is second only to his countryman Ben Stokes, who was bought by Pune for ₹14.5 Crores.

In the five matches he played for the RCB during the tenth season of the IPL, he took five wickets at an economy of 8.57 and best of 2/31. He was released after that season and went unsold in the 2018 auction.
