IPL 2019 was a tournament Kolkata Knight Riders would like to forget. KKR were expected to build on an impressive 2018 season but unfortunately, they failed to live up to expectations. Injuries to fast bowlers, poor form of key players like Kuldeep Yadav and Piyush Chawla and over-reliance on Andre Russell contributed to KKR's downfall.

However, one player who had to face major criticism for his intent, or we will say the lack of it, was Robin Uthappa. The experienced batsman scored 282 runs at an average of 31.33. While his numbers suggest that he had a fruitful season, there were occasions were he failed to win crucial moments for his side. Uthappa's moderate strike-rate of 115.10 shows his inability to score quick runs which cost KKR a couple of matches. KKR might want to give greater responsibilities to the young Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana and that might result in an end to Uthappa's association with the franchise.
