Blaming the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the national team’s underwhelming performances in Test arena, of late, legendary spinner Bishan Singh Bedi has said that if the Indian cricket team continues to play the way it does, then “even Bangladesh cricket will start challenging them”.
In the aftermath of India’s 1-3 series loss to England in the just concluded 5-match Test series, Bedi, speaking to Cricketnext, said: "There was no planning, no strategy, things just kept on going wrong. It was painful to watch Test cricket in IPL mode. IPL is the main cause for the disgusting performance by India."
"If this is the condition of the Indian team, then that day is not far when even Bangladesh will challenge India in Test cricket."
The 67-year-old, who has represented India in 67 Test matches, is not too happy with MS Dhoni and Duncan Fletcher still sticking on to their jobs despite not delivering the results. He said: “Despite the abysmal overseas record, both Dhoni and Duncan Fletcher continue to be at the helm. The Test that India won at Lord's was not because the team played well; it was due to the England side playing very poor cricket."
