Mitchell Johnson had an impressive debut season in the year 2013 which resulted in Kings XI Punjab buying the left-arm quick for a hefty 6.50 crores. Johnson did not disappoint the team and performed exceedingly well in 2014. He bowled some good spells in tough bowling conditions and picked up 17 wickets in the season and played a key role in their journey to the finals.

However, Johnson's performance in the next two seasons deteriorated. In 2015 he took just 9 wickets, while in 2016 he played only 3 matches taking just 2 wickets. Because of his poor performance, Johnson wasn't retained by the franchise in 2017.
