No. 2: 158* by Brendon McCullum of KKR vs RCB
Brendon McCullum was the first player to score a century in the IPL when he scored 158* (73 balls, 13 sixes & 10 fours) against RCB in 2008. He held the record for the highest individual score till 2013.
McCullum hit sixes against all the bowlers involved in the match - 3 against Praveen Kumar and 2 each against Zaheer Khan, Ashley Noffke, Jacques Kallis, Sunil Joshi and Cameron White.
The highest number of runs scored by him in an over was 22 against Praveen Kumar in the 20th over. His performance made him the first player to win the Player of the Match award in the IPL.
Unfortunately for McCullum, he could play only 4 matches in 2008 and could score only 30 runs from the remaining 3 that he played after this 158 knock.
No. 1: 175* by Chris Gayle of RCB vs Pune Warriors
The top spot is unsurprisingly occupied by Chris Gayle. His 175* (66 balls, 17 sixes and 13 fours) against Pune Warriors in 2013 is the highest individual score in the history of IPL. It is also the fastest century scored; he reached his century in just 30 balls.
Gayle hit 5 sixes each against Mitchell Marsh and Ali Murtaza, 4 sixes against Aaron Finch, 2 sixes against Ashok Dinda and 1 six against Luke Wright. He hit Mitchell Marsh and Aaron Finch for 28 runs in the 5th the 8th overs respectively.
It was no surprise that he was named as the Player of the Match. The 17 sixes hit by him is still the record for the most number of sixes hit by a player in an innings in the history of IPL.
