Is MS Dhoni The Best Captain In The World?

The answer of this question is not that straightforward. Most of the Indians will say that he is the best at this moment of time, thanks to the number 1 test ranking and performances that team has given both home and abroad under his leadership. But I don’t think he is that good. In my opinion, Andrew Strauss, Ricky Ponting and Shahid Afridi is much better than him. I know you will be very surprised with the fact that how Afridi is better than Dhoni when Pakistan cricket board is not sure of his captaincy skill (delaying in announcing the Pakistan captain for the cricket world cup). But let me tell you, whatever I have seen of him, I am hugely impressed.

Dhoni has so many good players to call upon while Afridi is captaining the team who is in rebuilding mode and indiscipline is prevalent in abundance. Even worse, Pakistan cricket board act like a stupid kid all the time, which makes captaincy even more difficult. The man management skills of MS Dhoni is exceptional but when it comes to innovation in field setting and making strategy, he is absolute joke. For example, whatever I have seen of Dhoni captaincy, he works on one principle only. Bat first, get a score and then hope and prey that wicket starts turning and he can use spinners against teams that are not comfortable with it.

This is not the case with Ponting and Strauss. I know most of you will say that Ponting era is gone but whatever he has done, is just exceptional. In my opinion, he is the full package in terms of captaincy. The best part about Ponting is that he can adjust to any condition and react on the basis of it. This is not the case with Dhoni who is limited in his capatincy skill. Whatever be the case, one thing is for sure that Dhoni has done wonders for India and I am proud of that. But as a cricket expert, he is yet to win my heart with his captaincy skill. Some innovation Mahi!
