Not many cricketers take too kindly to being dropped. Even fewer take to social media and engage with fans and critics, after being dropped from the national side. Then again, James Douglas Sheahan Neesham is not your ordinary cricketer.
Jimmy Neesham, as he is commonly called, has a solid, if not spectacular record for New Zealand. But what sets the 25-year-old apart is the casual way in which he takes to Twitter to express his views.
Whether it is responding to critics, talking about a variety of things that are not cricket, or simply his take on how the game is played, Neesham’s Twitter banter is arguably the best of any athlete.
On the historic ocassion of the first-ever Day-Night Test, Neesham took to Twitter to talk about the day’s play, despite being dropped from the Kiwis squad after the first Test in Brisbane.
It all began with a sarcastic remark and a cheeky response.
Then things got a little heated, as he started talking about the appearance of Australia’s team masseur and logistics coordinator as a substitute fielder.
But Neesham kept going, as he listed the many memorable records set on a historic day.
There was even talk about this “pink ball”.
But talking about the commentary was when Jimmy was at his sarcastic best.
In between, Neesham even had time to fulfill a fan’s wishes.
At the end of the first day's play, he was simply exhausted.
