English cricketer Jonny Bairstow represents England in all formats of the game and also plays for Yorkshire in league cricket. He is a wicketkeeper-batsman. He was born on September 26, 1989, in Bradford, Yorkshire. Bairstow is a right-handed batsman who opens for his team and is known for his clean strokes and hard-hitting style in the powerplay.

Jonny Bairstow debuted in the IPL in the year 2019. Sunrisers Hyderabad bought him in the auction and he opened the innings with SRH skipper David Warner which completely transformed the way the Orange Army batted that season

He cemented his spot with back-to-back spectacular performances, scoring at a strike rate of 150 and utilizing the first six overs to the core. He hit close to 450 runs in 10 matches and even smashed a century in his first season.

Despite good performances with the bat, he was released by the franchise in 2022. When he entered the mega auction, he was attracted by many bidders but was finally picked up by Punjab Kings for INR 6.75 crore.

His first season at the team in 2022 was his lowest till now where he scored 253 runs in 11 matches at an average of just 23, well below his standards. Bairstow exhibited his class during the 2016 cricket season while playing for England. Presenting himself as a formidable and attacking opener, his run in the T20 format on the international level proved good enough to turn the heads of franchises in the 2019 IPL auction. He was picked up by SRH for 2.2 crores, where he delivered brilliantly and established himself as the go-to opener of the franchise. Before the 2022 mega auction, he was released by the side and after a good round of bidding war, PBKS bagged him for INR 6.75 crore. He was retained for the same amount in the 2023 IPL where he was ruled out due to an injury. He is retained for 6.75 crores again in the current 2024 IPL season.

The hard-hitting English batter made early inroads in his maiden IPL season of 2019. SRH asked him to open the innings and boy, he did not disappoint. He hit an astounding 445 runs in just 10 matches at an incredible strike of 157! His ability to attack the bowlers from the word go helped SRH dominate the powerplay and put on a massive total. He continued his form in the next season as well but saw a little dip in his runs and strike rate. The 2021 season saw him play only 7 games where he jotted up 248 runs and worked on his strike rate from 2020. In 2022, he played his maiden season for PBKS and had an average season with the bat.
