Kane Williamson, a batter with sheer class and technique is a big name in world cricket today. He has achieved this by starting right from the bottom, carrying the responsibility of his team, and growing in stature, breaking milestones one after the other.

IPL was a place where he joined in a little late, but he did not take long to cement his place and present himself as a tough competitor against his opposition.

He started his journey in the league with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2015. He was part of the winning SRH squad the next year and even took them to the final in 2018. He ended up as the top run-getter in the season with 735 runs and was one of the major reasons for the franchise’s success that year.

He took over the captaincy after David Warner was asked to step down by the SRH management. However, Kane had some ups and downs through the years and before the 2023 IPL auction, he was released.

The auction saw him get picked for INR 2 crore by the defending champions, Gujarat Titans, but his campaign was cut short after the New Zealander injured himself while attempting for a catch in the boundary and was ruled out of the entire season.

Williamson proved his mettle when he outshined the opponent with his batting at the international level. He gained recognition and it was not much time until the IPL opened its doors for him to play in the league. He was picked by SRH for INR 60 lakhs in 2015. Since then, he became a core part of the franchise and his salary went up to INR 3 crore in 2018. In the IPL 2022 season, his price shot to INR 14 crore. Before the auction held for IPL 2023, SRH released him and the reigning champions Gujarat Titans bought him for INR 2 crores.

Gujarat Titans have retained him for the same price of INR 2 crores and the NZ skipper would be eagerly looking forward to the IPL 2024 season after missing out on IPL 2023 due to an ACL injury.
