Kapil Dev to receive BCCI's Lifetime Achievement Award

Former Indian World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev will be conferred with the Col. C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award announced BCCI via its twitter handle @BCCI. The Col. C. K. Nayudu Award is the highest-revered award for captaincy and lifetime achievement in Indian cricket.

This Award has been presented previously to the following players: Nariman Contractor, Gundappa Vishwanath, Mohinder Amarnath, Salim Durrani, Ajit Wadekar and most recently Sunil Gavaskar.

Col. C. K. Nayudu was the first captain of the Indian Cricket Team in Test matches. Nayudu was the first cricketer to be honoured with the Padma Bhushan.

Kapil Dev led India to it’s 1st World Cup Victory in England, against West Indies. India has won the World Cup on only two occasions, the second one being recently, in 2011 when India defeated Sri Lanka to lift the World Cup after a gap of 28 years.

He was named by Wisden as the Indian Cricketer of the Century in 2002, Kapil Dev was also India’s national cricket coach for 10 months between October 1999 and August 2000.

The Haryana Hurricane is the only player in the history of cricket to have taken more than 400 wickets (434 wickets) and scored more than 5,000 runs in Tests, making him one of the greatest all-rounders to have played the game. On 8 March 2010, Kapil Dev was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.
