Pakistan legend's son to play for Australia?
Like father, like son but not so much. While legendary Pakistan leg-spinner Abdul Qadir's son Usman Qadir is also a leggie like his father, he is keen on playing international cricket for Australia and not Pakistan. The 25-year-old made his debut for Western Australia against Victoria in the JLT One-Day Cup on Wednesday and finished with figures of 3/50.
It's been six years since Usman first emerged as a candidate to represent Australia. Although he represented Pakistan in the 2012 U-19 World Cup, he started playing club cricket in Australia and inspired by Fawad Ahmed's rapid rise before he represented Australia, Usman is also eyeing an Australian citizenship by qualifying for a distinguished talent visa which would help him qualify to play for Australia in time for the 2020 World T20, which is hosted by Australia.
"When I saw Fawad, the government changed the law for him, I am going to apply for a distinguished talent visa and before that I've got permanent residency and hopefully I will get citizenship as well in two years' time. My goal is to play for Australia in the 2020 World Twenty20. Hopefully, definitely [I will be eligible]," he told Cricinfo.
