Overton, Trescothick combine for unique hat-trick

Marcus Trescothick made the headlines once again

Craig Overton's second first-class hat-trick included a unique occurrence the likes of which has not happened for more than hundred years in Somerset's innings win over Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

Marcus Trescothick was the fielder in all three of the dismissals and the veteran batsman became the first outfielder since G. J. Thompson of Northamptonshire in 1914 to be involved in three consecutive dismissals in three balls. Fielding at second slip, he held onto catches from Ben Slater, Samit Patel and Riki Wessels that turned the complexion of the game.

The 42-year-old Trescothick had recently signed a contract with Somerset, which will extend his association with the side to 27 years.
