Kingston, Aug 29 (IANS): Left-arm pacer Krishmar Santokie says he hopes his performances for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the just-concluded Caribbean Premier T20 League (CPL) will help him regain his place in the West Indies senior team.

Santokie was named Player of the Tournament after taking 16 wickets to end as the leading scalper in the inaugural event.

However his franchise suffered a seven wicket loss to the Jamaica Tallawahs in the finals at Queen’s Park Oval, in Trinidad Saturday.

“It’s a very memorable and prestigious moment for me to be named Player of the Tournament,” CMC quoted Santokie as saying Wednesday.

“I have been trying to get the award ever since the Caribbean Twenty20 tournament started a few years back, and, in my eyes, it has been very close.”

Santokie also claimed the leading wicket taker title in 2012 and finished third in this year’s staging of the now-defunct Caribbean Twenty20.

He has represented the West Indies in Twenty20 internationals, the last of which was two years ago.

“It has happened, however, in this historic CPL, which is great for me and my career, and I hope it opens up new doors for me with regards to the West Indies, and worldwide,” said Santokie who earlier this year represented Khulna Royal Bengals in the Bangladesh Premier League.

The Jamaican pacer finished the tournament with an impressive economy rate of 6.22, a wicket strike rate of 13.1, and an average of 13.6.

“I am a bit disappointed that my team did not bring it across the line,” said Santokie, who finished the game with none for 31 off his maximum four overs.

Tallawahs made 129 for three off 17.3 overs in reply to Amazon Warriors 128 for five off their maximum 20 overs.
