It took Ravi Ashwin just two overs to pick up his first wicket of the tour

LUNCH, Day 1

24 overs – WICB: 67/3, Singh 2, Blackwood 12

The Indian spinners bowl two overs in tandem and the players go out for LUNCH. It has been an active session for India, with four of their five bowlers creating wicket taking opportunities. While Thakur got India their first wicket, Ashwin got Campbell caught at short leg to provide his side with a second wicket. Binny’s short ball got the better of Hope, thus giving India their third. The WICB batsmen have not been allowed to get set at the crease for long periods of time and hence find themselves in a spot of bother at 67/3.

22 overs – WICB: 66/3, Singh 1, Blackwood 12

Ravindra Jadeja, for the first time on this tour, comes on to bowl. While one of his deliveries was spanked for a boundary through the off side by Blackwood, the left-arm spinner came back to spin a ball just enough – away from the right-hander, after it had pitched just outside off – and with some considerable bounce to beat the outside edge of the batsman, and initiate an appeal by the wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha.

20 overs – WICB: 57/3, Singh 0, Blackwood 4

India pick up their third wicket.

After Ashwin, Binny strikes for India, as Hope drives a full and wide ball outside off stump, but couldn’t keep in down. The airborne ball found the man in the cover region, thereby giving Binny his first wicket. This is a god comeback by India. They are not allowing the batsmen to settle down and build a partnership.

Vishaul Singh, left-handed bat, is the new batsman.

19 overs – WICB: 57/2, Hope 11, Blackwood 4

India try to maintain pressure after then fall of the wicket. But Blackwood and Hope and in the mood to counter attack. A little bit of width offered outside off by Ashwin in the previous over, and Blackwood was quick to latch on to it and cut it past backward point for a boundary.

17 overs – WICB: 49/2, Hope 7, Blackwood 0

Ashwin strikes in his third over, as Campbell nicks one to short leg. India have taken their second wicket. Campbell was well set at the crease and was looking ominous, as far as the Indian prospects were concerned. The visitors would be delighted to see his back.

Jermaine Blackwood, who is also a part of the squad selected to face India in the first Test, walks out to bat.

15 overs – WICB: 48/1, Hope 7, Campbell 34

While Binny maintains a tight line from one end, Ashwin’s full ball on middle stumps from the other end gets swept away towards square leg for a boundary. India are desperately looking for a second wicket here.

13 overs – WICB: 38/1, Hope 5, Campbell 25

Stuart Binny has been introduced into the attack. He concedes only a single off is first over. Ashwin, from the other end, bowls a maiden, thereby bogging Hope down at the crease.

11 overs – WICB: 37/1, Hope 5, Campbell 25

The first drinks break has been taken, as the last ball of Ashwin’s first over, deflected off Hope’s thighs into the hands of the man at leg slip. There was an appeal, but was quickly turned down by the umpire.

Ravichandran Ashwin, for the first time on this tour, comes on to bowl. One slip, a leg slip and a short leg in position.

10 overs – WICB: 36/1, Hope 3, Campbell 25

It seems that the wicket has pumped up Shardul Thakur, as his nagging lines and lengths have started troubling even the well set Campbell. An outside edge off Campbell’s bat fell just short of the man at gully in the 10th over. Almost all of his deliveries have been directed at the stumps.

8 overs – WICB: 27/1, Hope 0, Campbell 19

India have their first wicket.

Shardul Thakur bowled a no-ball in the 8th over, it was that extra delivery that got him the wicket. A short ball to Campbell was pulled by the batsman but with no timing or placement. The ball swooned up in the air and a running Stuart Binny, completed the catch just to the left-hand side of the pitch at the nonstriker’s end, running in from mid-on.

Shai Hope, who scored a hundred in the last practice game, walks out to bat.

7 overs – WICB: 26/0, Johnson 3, Campbell 19

Shami switches angles. Comes around the wicket now. He bowls a couple of wide balls, way outside off, which are left alone by the batsman. Thakur, in the next over, comes around the wicket too, and he maintains a straighter line, thereby making the left-handed batsmen play at the ball. A couple of full and wide balls outside the off stump in the 8th over did invite the drives, but there was no connection.

6 overs – WICB: 25/0, Johnson 2, Campbell 19

As Shami continues to struggle in terms of hitting one spot consistently, the glimpses of which were seen in the last over when he solid defence by the batsman was collected by the Indian bowler who threw it right back at the stumps. Thakur, on the other hand, has been extremely impressive during his first couple of overs and has induced an outside edge off Campbell’s bat, which has been the only chance created by the Indian bowlers so far.

4 overs – WICB: 16/0, Johnson 1, Campbell 11

Shami is struggling to hit the right lengths early on in the match. His two overs so far have seen two boundaries being scored off him, both by Campbell. Thakur, on the other hand, has shown some promise in his first two overs by bowling tight lines and lengths. The West Indian batsmen, on the other hand, have shown discipline and patience.

2 overs – WICB: 10/0, Johnson1 , Campbell 5

Just a solitary run off the second over. Thakur starts off well.

Shardul Thakur is sharing the new ball. First experience of an away tour for the youngster.

1 over – WICB: 9/0, Johnson 0, Campbell 5

Campbell scored a brisk boundary off the very first ball of the match to get things going. There were four extras as well in the over in the form of 4 leg byes.
