Things are coming together well for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL).
Yashasvi Jaiswal is back in form. Jos Buttler has smacked a couple of hundreds, and Riyan Parag and Sanju Samson have put the middle order on their backs. Sandeep Sharma seems to have secured a permanent spot in the pace attack. Yuzvendra Chahal is in Purple Cap contention, as always.
It's rather scary to think that a team that hasn't needed much from the lower order, coupled with the fact that R Ashwin has picked up only one wicket so far, is sitting comfortably atop the points table. If seven wins from eight matches is not RR's peak, what is?
As the league stage moves on, we might get an answer to that question. Playoff qualification is almost guaranteed, and if they continue to play this way, a top-two spot might not be far away either.
Meanwhile, RR's opponents on Saturday, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), are slowly gathering steam as well. KL Rahul's men are on the back of a pair of victories over the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), by which they stamped their authority on the fourth spot in the standings.
A win will help Lucknow put pressure on the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), who are level on points with them. With the Super Giants having a lot of flexibility concerning the relaid pitches at the Ekana Stadium, we could see them make the most of their home advantage against the table-toppers.
IPL 2024, LSG vs RR Win Probability: Table-toppers seek perfection
It's hard to look past RR for this clash. With the top four firing on all cylinders and enough ability in the middle order, the Royals have all bases covered in the batting department.
KL Rahul has batted with intent, but Quinton de Kock hasn't been anywhere close to his fluent best. If Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran are nipped out early, Rajasthan could cruise to a convincing victory.
More tellingly, RR have the team combination and impact player flexibility to deal with any conditions that might be thrown at them at the Ekana Stadium. Despite Mayank Yadav's potential return, they should be able to outplay the home side in multiple departments.
IPL 2024 has been extremely unpredictable of late, with teams in the bottom half of the table coming up with notable performances against bigger fish. However, the signs point towards an RR victory, and those signs are hard to ignore.
Prediction: RR to win Match 43 of IPL 2024.
