A hard-hitting batsman who has the ability to send down a few overs of medium-pace bowling is one of the biggest attractions during an IPL auction. Australia's Marcus Stoinis tick marks both these skillsets, and, so it was not a surprise when the Delhi Daredevils (Capitals) claimed his services in 2015. Stoinis didn't get a game at Delhi, but with his international stokes soaring, Punjab Kings signed him up ahead of the 2016 season. PBKS retained his services via the 'Right to Match' Card following RCB's bid of INR 6.2 Crores during the 2018 mega-auction.But, after a promising debut season in 2016- 146 runs in 5 innings @ 36.5/135.18 & 8 wickets @ 24.25 with one 4-fer- Stoinis couldn't live up to his billing in the next two editions as he managed just 116 runs & 5 wickets in 12 outings. As a result, Punjab traded the Australian to RCB ahead of the 2019 edition. Stoinis flourished with the bat as he hammered 211 runs in 10 innings @ 52.75/135.25 but couldn't deliver with the ball- 2 wickets in 6 innings @ having 72.50 average.Stoinis was released by RCB ahead of the 2020 mini-auction, where the Capitals regained his services.Stoinis thrived in the role of a finisher or opener and a power player or death medium-seamer at Delhi, and his all-round display was the major reason why DC made its way into the finals for the very first time.He followed it up with disappointing returns in 2021 and was ultimately released. In 2022, Stoinis was roped in by the Lucknow SuperGiants for INR 9.2 Crores. The 2023 IPL season was phenomenal for him. He scored 408 runs with a fabulous strike rate of 150.00 and also managed to take 5 wickets. He has been retained for the same price (INR 9.2 crore) by the LSG franchise in the 2024 IPL auction.
