Maria Sharapova reveals that she does not know who Sachin Tendulkar is

Russia tennis star Maria Sharapova has shocked quite a few passionate cricket followers. The 27-year old athlete claims that she has never heard of Sachin Tendulkar who is held in high regard for his remarkable achievements in the ‘gentleman’s game’.

The little master from India, who has scored more than 34,000 international runs with a record 100 centuries, was present in the Royal Box at Wimbledon when the former tennis World No. 1 was in action on Saturday. The Russian, who spoke so much about David Beckham after her match, was asked: "Sachin Tendulkar was the other person who came in at the same time as David [Beckham] - do you know who Sachin is?"

She replied: “I don’t.”

Speaking on Beckham, she said: “Besides being an incredible football player, he has done so much in his career, having a family, maintaining so many things off the court. He is a really nice person to chat to. We're not best friends or anything, but it's nice to be able to say hello and congratulate each other on achievements we've had in our careers and so on.”

Retired England captain Andrew Strauss and English golfer Ian Poulter were among the other sports personalities present at the event.
