MCC v RoW, Lord's Bicentenary Match: Brett Lee breaks Shane Warne's hand as RoW post 293 on board

Bowling the last over of the first innings, Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) XI seamer Brett Lee delivered a beamer that hit the opposition captain Shane Warne on his bowling hand. Warne was ruled out for the rest of the day’s play and was taken to a hospital for scans, which confirmed that the Rest of the World (RoW) skipper had suffered a broken hand.

Batting first, RoW, led by Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh’s 134-ball 132, scored 293/7 in 50 overs. Earlier in the day, Saeed Ajmal threatened to run through the opposition by picking up 4 wickets in his first spell – Adam Gilchrist, Tamim Iqbal, Kevin Pietersen and Shahid Afridi – to reduce RoW from 54/1 to 68/5 in 12 overs.

The fact that Ajmal was taken off the attack and that Umar Gul was taken off the field meant Aaron Finch and Sachin Tendulkar had to bowl 4 overs each. They conceded 66 runs between them, to help RoW in launching a recovery via a 131-run partnership from Paul Collingwood and Yuvraj. Despite Collingwood’s dismissal for a 64-ball 40, Yuvraj and Peter Siddle carried on to set up a challenging target for the opposition.

In reply, the MCC openers Tendulkar (34 off 35) and Finch (45 off 37) have got off to a very fine start, scoring 80/0 in 12 overs.
