Michael Holding calls for a ban on Stuart Broad for refusing to walk

Former West Indies fast bowler Michael Holding has called for a ban on Stuart Broad for refusing to walk after edging the ball to slip.

Facing the left arm spinner Ashton Agar, Stuart edged the ball after it spun out of the rough and it took a healthy edge to Michael Clarke at first slip. Broad nonchalantly just walked down the pitch when umpire Aleem Dar failed to raise the finger.

Earlier this year, West Indian wicket keeper Dinesh Ramdin had been banned for a couple of matches as he had falsely claimed a catch that bounced before it reached him. The irony of the situation is that this decision was handed out to him by Chris Broad, who is the father of Stuart.

Calling on the ICC to act, Holding believed that there was no difference in the actions of the two players, as both amounted to not adhering to the spirit of the game.

“What Stuart Broad did amounts to the same thing as Ramdin,” said Holding.

“He knew he had hit the ball. The ICC fined Ramdin and suspended him for ‘actions that were contrary to the spirit of the game.’

“That is not the only thing which is contrary to the spirit of the game.

“What Stuart Broad did is contrary to the spirit of the game. He played the ball and stayed there.”

The ICC is definitely on a sticky wicket in this case.
