Former England captain Michael Vaughan has described India’s innings defeat against the home team at Old Trafford as ‘pathetic’.
"Brilliant from England. India, you can only describe their display today as pathetic," Vaughan told BBC Radio's Test Match Special.
India went down quite miserably by losing 9 wickets in the final session on day 3, to end up losing the Test by an innings and 54 runs, against an England side that was devoid of one of their frontline bowlers in Stuart Broad, who received a nasty blow to his face courtesy of a bouncer from Varun Aaron in the afternoon session to be ruled out for the rest of the day.
MS Dhoni’s men fell like nine pins following the dismissal of Gautam Gambhir for a 53-ball 18 to his name. From 53/2, it became 66-6, thereby ruling out any little chance the visitors had to save the game.
"There was no movement through the air, a hint of spin, but not a great deal and they just lost their fight. As soon as Gambhir got out it was almost as if they dangled a white flag from the dressing-room and that is unacceptable from an international side," he said.
The 39-year-old also took a dig at India’s failed off-field attempt to get James Anderson punished for a spat with Ravindra Jadeja.
"If you look back to Lord's, I think India have been fighting too many battles off the pitch. You've got to remember to fight battles on the pitch and I have not seen any of that over that in the last two weeks," said Vaughan.
