As we are almost midway into Season 6 of the IPL the big Question is whether IPL6 is bigger and biggest than its previous versions?
No big blockbuster movie releases still during IPL, no Musical shows on Television, launch of epic Mahabharat serial only post IPL are probably some of the indicators that IPL remains a big challenge to the Bollywood as well as ‘Telly’wood of Indian industry. We haven’t yet seen a single cricket ground not full as yet in IPL6. I am told in Delhi tickets are worth Rs.2,000 and Rs.2,500 and then its Rs.11,000, Rs.14,000 and so on. Mind-boggling isn’t it? Still stands get filled up so people really crave for entertainment value in life. And no doubt IPL is a big entertainer and surely the Mother of all T20 Tournaments across the world.
Coming back to the game itself as things stand it seems quite clear that last year Champions KKR are way below the point table and only a sort of miracle can move them into the knock out Top 4. Looks highly unlikely. Chennai Super Kings look invincible while RCB keep flourishing only when Gayle-storm blows and on its back yard home grounds. Sun Risers seem the surprise package but more would be Rajasthan Royals who now look formidable to make it to top 4.

The tournament past history has shown Teams have rarely been able to maintain top form throughout the tournament. It’s a long tournament with Teams playing as many as 16 games each. There comes a time when the form dips. Surprisingly RR has maintained a remarkable consistency in their form so far. The Q is will history repeat itself? Will their form dip at some stage or they will be able to carry the form through the tournament? This will remain of great interest as we move into the 2nd half of the tournament.
Daredevils remain the biggest enigma in all editions so far. With such a strong batting lineup during previous years they have failed to make it. This year they started on back foot with Kevin Pieterson then Jessie Ryder dropping out due to injuries. Now they are struggling with every game and must be one team who wants the tournament to end quickly.
Next year the auctions are supposed to open up with many players coming into the auction pool. That will a different charm to IPL7. Will players like Raina, Jadeja, Gambhir up for grabs again. On paper they are supposed to be but doubt Franchises will really agree to let go of some of these names. Am sure some tweaking in the rules is already on the board of several Franchises. We will wait to see.
All said IPL remain a great entertainer and as we say it’s a Biriyani dinner every night for 53 days!
