Former Pakistan captain Moin Khan was appointed as chief selector on Monday by the Pakistan Cricket Board.
In a brief statement the former wicket-keeper said that he sees this appointment as a ‘challenge’.
The 41-year-old takes over from Iqbal Qasim, who resigned earlier this month in wake of Pakistan’s dismal showing in the Champions Trophy in England.
The PCB, in a statement, said Khan held talks with interim chairman Najam Sethi and took up the vacant job.
A PCB release said: “Former captain and wicket-keeper Khan will take over as chief selector while the rest of the members of the committee will remain the same.”
The other selectors who hung on to their jobs are former fast bowler Salim Jaffer, Asif Baloch, Farrukh Zaman and Azhar Khan.
Khan was quoted in the release as saying: “It is an honour and a privilege to be offered the position of chairman of national selection committee — a position held by many greats in the past and most recently by legendary spinner Qasim.”
“I have accepted this as a challenge and I am glad that PCB and my own vision corresponds in terms of preparing a pool of talented cricketers who can mount an effective challenge in the 2015 World Cup.”
Khan played 69 Tests and 219 ODIs for Pakistan and was also a member of World Cup winning team in 1992.
No tenure has been set for Moin Khan’s post as current PCB regim is under the cloud after Islamabad high court ordered interim chairman, Sethi, to hold PCB elections within 90 days.
