The first bowler to take a five-for in the marquee event was former Pakistan pacer Umar Gul, who claimed ⅚ against New Zealand at the 2009 event in England.
Sri Lankan bowlers dominate the list of players with five-wicket-hauls in T20 World Cups, with Lasith Malinga (5/31 vs. England in 2012), Ajanta Mendis (6/4 vs. Zimbabwe in 2012), and Rangana Herath (5/3 vs. New Zealand in 2014) having claimed the prestigious feat.
The Netherlands’ Ahsan Malik is the only associate bowler to take a five-wicket-haul in T20 World Cups. The pacer registered figures of 5/19 against South Africa in the 2014 edition.
