Legendary Australian Sir Donald Bradman holds the record of most double-centuries in Test cricket. Bradman’s career is decorated by some awe-inspiring numbers - 6996 runs in 52 Tests at an average of 99.94, including 13 fifties and 29 centuries.
For an international batter who is fond of playing Test cricket, often considered as the pinnacle of the game, to record a three-digit score is a great achievement and attaining a double-hundred is like a cherry on the cake.
A total of 352 Test double-hundreds have been recorded as of early December 2022, with Australian batters Steven Smith (200*) and Marnus Labuschagne (204*) being the latest to join the list during the first Test between Australia and West Indies in Perth.
Don Bradman’s first double-hundred (254) came against England during the Lord’s Test on June 27, 1930. His best score of 334 was recorded in the next Test match in Leeds as the match ended in a drawn affair.
Former Sri Lanka skipper Kumar Sangakkara, who scored 12400 runs in his Test career during his storied career, has just one double-hundred less than Bradman (11). Indian batter Virat Kohli (7) among the active players has the most double-hundreds in Tests followed by Joe Root (5), Steve Smith (4) and Cheteshwar Pujara (3).
Kohli, Marvan Atapattu and Javed Miandad are the only batters in the list of top 10 batters to achieve double-hundred to not score 300 once in their career. Brian Lara’s 400 is the highest individual score among batters to have crossed the 200.
