1. Herschelle Gibbs (36 runs)
Never in a 50 over game six sixes were being hit in an over. The South African batsman just did that against the Netherlands during the 2007 world cup in the carribean. Van Bunge’s part time leg spin got thrashed all over the park. It’s worth mentioning that after a few months, Stuart Broad got hit for six sixes by Yuvraj in the T20 world cup.
2. Thisara Perera (35 runs)
Robin Peterson was the bowler in this case, and his left arm spin sat up nicely for Thisara as he clubbed the first four ball for sixes. The fifth ball went for a four before he finished the over with six. There was also a wide which made sure 35 runs were scored making it the second costliest ever.
3. Shahid Afridi (32 runs)
Anyone’s surprised by lala’s presence in this list? Boom boom was in full flow in that fateful day for Sri Lanka’s Bandara. The first two balls went for fours and the next four disappeared in to the stands.
4. Kane Williamson/James Franklin (31 runs)
29 runs off the bat coupled with two extras made it the fourth highest over in ODI cricket. It was the last over of New Zealand’s innings against Canada in their 2011 world cup group game.
5. Sanath Jayasuriya (30 runs)
Jayasuriya took 30 runs off Aamir Sohail during his brutal 50 which came off just 17 balls. Till today, it is the world record for the fastest fifty in the format.
