The Sri Lankans dominate the top five list of bowlers with most wickets in a single edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, with current skipper Wanindu Hasaranga featuring twice.
The talented wrist-spinner has ruled the wicket-taking charts in the previous two editions of the global showpiece event. He claimed 16 wickets in 8 matches in 2021 and backed it up with 15 more in Australia in 2022/23.
Former Sri Lanka mystery spinner Ajanta Mendis is at the second spot, as he bagged 15 wickets at home during the 2012 event.
Former Aussie pacer Dirk Nannes is at the fourth spot with 14 wickets in seven matches during the 2010 T2O WC. He is followed by the Player of the Tournament of the last World Cup, England’s Sam Curran, who claimed 13 wickets in his team’s triumphant campaign Down Under.
Aussie wrist-spinner Adam Zampa and Dutch seam-bowling all-rounder Bas de Leede will feature in the upcoming WC, and they will look to better or equal their tally from 2021 and 2022 respectively. Zampa claimed 13 wickets in Australia’s World Cup-winning campaign in 2021, while De Leede bagged also bagged 13 scalps Down Under in 2022.
