It took Dhoni only two more years to jump from 100 to 200 when in the first ODI on Sri Lanka's tour to India in 2009, he nabbed twin stumpings to finish with exactly two hundred ODI dismissals. In a thriller of an ODI at Rajkot, Dhoni, now the captain of the side across all formats, first smashed 72 off only 53 balls batting at number three to help India post 414/7 after Virender Sehwag's flying 146.

Sri Lanka threatened to overhaul the target, but fell only three short, finishing on 411/8 as Tillakaratne Dilshan hit 160.

Dhoni's 200th victim was the big Sanath Jayasuriya, who paid the price for dancing down the track too early to a Harbhajan Singh off-spinner, which was bowled with flight yet was short and flat in line. The ball found its way to Dhoni behind, who then calmly dislodged the bails to walk away with his second stumping following that of Upul Tharanga.
