There was a new twist to the IPL spot-fixing crisis, as Mumbai Police officials today reached the house of Gurunath Meiyappan, CEO of Chennai Super Kings. However, it was not clear why they were in Chennai, and there is no official statement in that regard by either the police or the franchise.
But according to reports circulating in the Indian media since Tuesday evening, Vindoo Dara Singh was arrested in Mumbai for links with bookies related to the Super Kings franchise. Those reports, which also include pictures of Vindoo attending IPL matches in the company of captain MS Dhoni‘s wife, have not been denied in the 48 hours since.
Meiyappan, in addition to being the CEO of Chennai Super Kings, is also the son-in-law of BCCI president N Srinivasan, whose company India Cements owns the Super Kings franchise.
When Mumbai police reached Meiyappan’s home, he was not there, but has been asked to reach Mumbai for questioning by tomorrow. If he doesn’t appear in Mumbai between 11 am and 5 pm, he will be declared a deserter.
It is understood that Mumbai police want to specifically check CSK’s boss Gurunath’s mobile phone records.
