Mumbai squad for Vijay Hazare Trophy 2012 boasts several options

Mumbai’s squad for India’s domestic One-day tournament, the Vijay Hazare Trophy, has been announced:

Ajit Agarkar (capt), Ajinkya Rahane (vice-capt), Wasim Jaffer, Ramesh Powar, Suryakumar Yadav, Dhawal Kulkarni, Abhishek Nayar, Iqbal Abdullah, Sushant Marathe (wk), Ankit Chavan, Kshemal Waingankar, Balwinder Singh Sandhu (Jr.), Siddharth Chitnis, Shoaib Shaikh, Anup Revandkar.

Fans will be happy to see Agarkar back in the team. And with Rahane in the side too, the batting seems to have become considerably stronger. Jaffer’s experience and ability to perform under pressure will be key to guiding the newbies.

Newcomer Surya Kumar Yadav, who has been in fine form lately, promises to be a good contender for the Blue Cap. These matches will also test his skills in limited overs matches and give him a good chance to prove himself.

Sushant Marathe is going to be only wicket-keeper for the team. Meanwhile, Abhishek Nayar, who was almost appointed as the captain, will have to wait another year for that mantle. But that might be a blessing in disguise – it would give him more time to focus on his batting and stay away from injuries.

Jqbal Abdullah, Ankit Chavan, Kshemal Waingankar, Balwinder Singh Sandhu (Jr.) and Siddharth Chitnis together form a potent bowling attack. The attack will, of course, be led by the talented Dhawal Kulkarni and Ramesh Powar.

Team Mumbai has a lot of options in both batting and bowling. They can even adopt a rotation policy the way Team India has been doing lately, so that the new players get enough chances to play and gain experience.

The Mumbai team will be looking to put the setback at Ranji Trophy behind them by winning the tournament and re-establishing their credentials.
