Opening batsman Murali Vijay crossed the 1000-run mark here Saturday during his knock of 57 in India’s first innings on the second day of the fourth Test against Australia.

In the process, Vijay became the 59th India batsman to reach 1000 Test runs and fourth from Tamil Nadu after Kris Srikkanth (2062), Sadagoppan Ramesh (1367) and Dinesh Karthik (1000).

Vijay has also taken a liking to the Australian bowling attack having scored his first, 500th and 1000th Test run against the men from Down Under. His first run came in Nagpur (2008), 500th in Bangalore (2010) and 1000th here at the Ferozeshah Kotla.

Vijay has scored all three of his centuries against Australia, including his best of 167 in Hyderabad in the second Test of the ongoing series.
