N Srinivasan has been cleared by the Supreme Court to contest the International Cricket Council (ICC) Presidential elections on 27 June 2014, despite a plea by the Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB) seeking to restrain the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chairman from fighting the polls.
"The person, who has been restrained from functioning as the BCCI President till the conclusion of the probe, cannot be allowed to take the contest for the post of President of the ICC," the counsel for the CAB said.
The two-member bench comprising of justices J S Kehar and C Nagappan dismissed the argument stating that the earlier apex court was clear in the proceedings, and the court will not hear any further plea on this issue.
“There is no conflict and our order is clear,” the bench said.
In the wake of the verdict, N Srinivasan is, in all likelihood, will be crowned as the new ICC president by the end of this month, and will have a two-year tenure at the helm.
