Chennai: N. Srinivasan was, as expected, elected unopposed the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a third year at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) here on Sunday.*

Srinivasan, however, can only take charge after the Supreme Court rules on a petition filed by the secretary of the Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB), Aditya Verma. The apex court will hear the case on Monday.

Senior board member Rajiv Shukla, who was elected the vice-president, said Srinivasan was elected unopposed for a third year in office.

“Mr. Srinivasan has been elected unopposed,” Shukla told IANS.

Srinivasan was the lone presidential candidate put forward by the South Zone, from where he got the proposer and the seconder.

Baroda’s Sanjay Patel, who diligently carried out the role of an interim secretary after the resignation of Sanjay Jagdale, will be the new full-time board secretary. Jagdle resigned in the wake of the spot-fixing and betting scandal in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Besides Shukla, who represents Uttar Pradesh, the other new vice-presidents are Sneh Bansal (Delhi) and Ravi Sawant (Mumbai).

Arun Jaitley paved the way for his Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) secretary Sneh Bansal to move in while Sawant, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president, succeeds Niranjan Shah. Shukla replaces Vidarbha’s Sudhir Dabir.

Jaitley and Shah did not want to be part of a set-up mired in controversies.

Haryana secretary Anirudh Chaudhary comes in as the new treasurer, replacing Sawant. Himachal’s Anurag Thakur will continue as joint secretary.

Cricket Association of Bengal joint secretary Chitrak Mitra and former India off-spinner Shivlal Yadav from Hyderabad will continue as vice-presidents for one more year.

Haryana secretary Anirudh Chaudhary comes in as the new treasurer, replacing Sawant, who was nominated along with Patel when Ajay Shirke went out with Jagdale.

Himachal’s Anurag Thakur will continue as joint secretary.

BCCI Sources told IANS that if the case in the Supreme Court lingers on, former president Jagmohan Dalmiya may continue as the officiating chief.

Dalmiya took over after Srinivasan stepped aside after the IPL spot-fixing and the betting scandal broke out.

The new office-bearers:

Vice presidents:

Out: Arun Jaitley (Delhi) Niranjan Shah (Saurashtra) Sudhir Dabir (Vidarbha)

In: Sneh Bansal (DDCA), Rajiv Shukla (UP) and Ravi Savant (Mumbai)

Retained: Chitrak Mitra (Bengal), Shivlal Yadav (Hyderabad)

Honorary Secretary: Sanjay Patel (Baroda)

Treasurer: Anirudh Chaudhary (Haryana Cricket Association)

Joint Secretary: Anurag Thakur (Himachal)

*Updated after the BCCI AGM in Chennai on Sunday.
