Joburg Super Kings (JSK) on Friday announced the signing of Devon Conway for the upcoming edition of SA20. The New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter also plays for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Texas Super Kings (TSK) in Major League Cricket (MLC).

This will mark a homecoming for Conway who has never played for Johannesburg in any tournament despite being born in the South African city.

On Friday, August 16, the Joburg-based franchise shared a video on X to welcome Conway to their team. They wrote:

“𝙆𝙞𝙬𝙞 / 𝙒𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙩 𝙆𝙚𝙚𝙥𝙚𝙧 𝘽𝙖𝙩𝙨𝙢𝙖𝙣 / 𝙀𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙎𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙇𝙞𝙤𝙣 . Welcome to the Wanderful pride, Devon!”

Devon Conway emerged as one of the top scorers in the latest edition of MLC. The left-hander amassed 293 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 143.62 with three half-centuries to boot. The southpaw, however, missed IPL 2024 due to a thumb injury.

The South African-born Kiwi opener has a brilliant record in T20 cricket, scoring 6028 in 187 matches with the help of two tons and 48 fifties.

Devon Conway signs casual contract with New Zealand Cricket

Devon Conway has signed a casual contract over a central contract with New Zealand Cricket (NZC) to allow him the option to pick and choose international assignments while prioritising franchise cricket. Conway recently said in a news release (via The Times of India):

"The decision to move away from a central playing contract isn't one I've taken lightly, but I believe it is the best for me and my family at this present time.”
"Playing for the Black Caps is still the pinnacle for me and I'm hugely passionate about representing New Zealand and winning games of international cricket," he added.

NZC chief executive Scott Weenink recently opened up about the importance of flexibility amid the growth of T20 leagues worldwide. He said:

"In the current environment it's important to have flexibility in our system to navigate some of the challenges posed by franchise cricket.”

Devon Conway has represented New Zealand in 20 Tests, 32 ODIs, and 50 T20Is. He will be available for the Champions Trophy next year.
