After going unsold in IPL, New Zealand's star cricketer finds no takers in PSL as well

New Zealand's star cricketer Kane Williamson found no buyers in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 season draft. The draft took place on Monday (January 13) in Lahore. Williamson was placed in the Platinum category but did not get picked in the PSL 2025 draft.

Ten other players found teams from the Platinum category, except for Kane Williamson. Several other New Zealand cricketers such as Mark Chapman, Adam Milne, Michael Bracewell, and Finn Allen were also in the Platinum category and found buyers during the PSL 2025 draft.

Notably, Kane Williamson also remained unsold during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction, which took place last year in November. His base price was set at INR 2 crore but he did not gain attraction from any of the franchises. The star Kiwi batter played just two games for the Gujarat Titans in the 2024 season.

After going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, Williamson registered for the PSL 2025 draft as well. The Kiwi batter has never played in the PSL before. He has scored 2575 runs from 93 T20Is at an average of 33.44 and a strike-rate of 123.08. His strike-rate in the shortest format could be the reason behind him going unsold in both leagues this time around.

Kane Williamson returns to New Zealand's squad for Champions Trophy 2025

New Zealand announced their squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which is set to take place in Pakistan. Former skipper Kane Williamson, along with Devon Conway and Lockie Ferguson, have been recalled to the squad.

The trio missed their recent ODI series against Sri Lanka at home. Their squad for the upcoming ICC event is bolstered by the return of experienced players including Williamson. However, he will not lead the side as Mitchell Santner has been announced captain.
