Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh, who was critical of former India captain MS Dhoni in the past, has made a dramatic U-turn, lauding the wicketkeeper-batter for his leadership qualities. The 66-year-old called Dhoni a "motivated and fearless" skipper apart from his ability to read the wicket and masterclass behind the wickets, especially in guiding the bowlers where to bowl.
Yograj shared an example where Dhoni punished Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson for a six after being hit on the helmet. He said on YouTube show ‘Unfiltered by Samdish’ (via Indian Express):
“I find Dhoni as a very motivated captain, who can tell people what to do. The best thing about Dhoni was that he could read the wicket can tell bowlers where to bowl. What I liked the most about him was that he was a fearless man.”
“If you remember in Australia, he was hit on the grill my Mitchell Johnson and he didn’t moved a bit, he stood there and next ball he pulled him for a six. Aise log kaafi kam hote hai (There are very few people like him,” he added.
It’s worth mentioning that Dhoni once asked his teammates not to celebrate after winning the tri-series in Australia in 2008.
“I won’t forgive MS Dhoni” – When Yograj Singh alleged ex-India captain of destroying his son Yuvraj Singh’s career
Yograj Singh had earlier alleged that MS Dhoni destroyed his son Yuvraj Singh’s career. He told Zee Switch’s YouTube channel in September 2024:
“I won’t forgive MS Dhoni. He should look at his face in the mirror. He is a very big cricketer, but what he has done against my son, everything is coming out now; it can never be forgiven in life.”
“I have never done two things in life—first, I have never forgiven anybody who has done wrong for me, and second, I have never hugged them in my life, be it my family members or my kids. That man (MS Dhoni) has destroyed the life of my son, who could have played four to five years more,” he added.
Dhoni won the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup with Yuvraj Singh playing a big role in the two ICC tournaments. The all-rounder played his last game for the Men in Blue in 2017, two years before his retirement in June 2019.
Meanwhile, Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket in August 2020. The Ranchi-born star played his game for India at the 2019 World Cup.
